What to Do If Something Looks Wrong in Your Degree Audit
It’s important to check your Degree Audit regularly, but sometimes things may not look right. Here’s how to review potential issues and what steps to take next.
Common Issues You Might Notice
- A course is missing from your audit
- A requirement shows as “Still Needed” even though you completed it
- Transfer credit hasn’t posted or applied as expected
- General Education (GE) blocks don’t look correct
- Your major, minor, or catalog year is incorrect
First Steps to Take
- Re-run your audit using the Run Declared Program button (or use “What-If” if exploring a new major)
- Check the Course History and Notes sections for advisor comments or missing term info
- Click on the course name in the audit to view prerequisites, availability, and catalog term restrictions
- Ensure your course was:
- Taken in the correct term
- Assigned the correct grade
- Not a duplicate or ineligible transfer
Who to Contact
- Academic Advisor: If a course isn't applying correctly or a requirement appears unmet
- Bobcat Advising Center: For first-year students or undeclared majors – https://bobcat-advising-center.ucmerced.edu
- Office of the Registrar: For issues with transfer credit, catalog year, or technical problems – registrar@ucmerced.edu
- OIT Service Desk: For login errors or system bugs – https://servicehub.ucmerced.edu
Tips for Faster Resolution
- Take a screenshot of the issue in your audit (if safe to do so)
- Include your student ID and a brief explanation in any email request
- If you're requesting an audit update (exception), work through your academic advisor
Most issues can be resolved quickly with help from your advisor or the Registrar. Don’t wait; addressing concerns early can help prevent delays in registration or graduation clearance.
