MyDegreePath for Students: Stay on Track & Get Help
MyDegreePath is a powerful tool designed to help you monitor your academic progress, but it's only effective if you use it regularly and understand how to interpret your progress.
Staying on Track
Run Your Audit Frequently
Your Degree Audit reflects your academic status at the moment it's generated, so re-run it whenever changes occur to capture the most accurate information. Re-run your Degree Audit regularly so you always see the most current information.
Key moments to update your audit include:
- After adding or dropping classes
- Following changes to your major, minor, or emphasis
- When submitting a Degree Audit Exception
- Upon receipt of new transfer credits or test scores
- When modifying your Degree Plan
You should also check your audit at important times during the term:
- Right before advising appointments or registration
- After final grades are posted
- Just before applying for graduation
What-If Audits
If you're thinking about changing your major, adding a minor, or switching your catalog year, a What-If Audit lets you see how your completed and in-progress courses would apply to a new program, without changing your official record. It’s an easy way to explore different academic paths before making a decision.
Identify and Troubleshoot Common Issues
Your Degree Audit should accurately reflect your academic progress. If something looks off, here’s how to spot and fix common problems.
Frequent Issues & Fixes
Issue | What to Check / Do First |
---|---|
Course missing from audit | Re-run your audit to make sure you have the latest version. Verify the course term and grade, and confirm it isn’t a duplicate or ineligible transfer. Check Courses Not Applying to see if it’s being counted as elective credit.. |
Requirement still marked “Still Needed” after completion | Confirm the course meets that requirement’s rules (e.g., minimum grade, units, course list). Look in Courses Not Applying to see if it doesn't match the criteria. |
Transfer credit is not appearing or not applying. | Make sure official transcripts/test scores have been received and posted. Re-run your audit. If still missing, contact your academic advisor or the Office of the Registrar. |
Misaligned General Education (GE) blocks | Check that your catalog year matches your current degree requirements — requirements can change by year. |
Incorrect major, minor, or catalog year | Review the audit header for your declared program and catalog year. If incorrect, request a change through your academic advisor. |
Self-Check Habits
Instead of repeating the fixes above, here are general habits that help keep your audit accurate:
- Re-run your audit after any schedule changes, program changes, or new transfer/test credit postings.
- Click on any course name to view details like prerequisites, term restrictions, and availability.
- Keep screenshots of issues along with your student ID to speed up support.
