MyDegreePath (Student) – Transfer Credit

When you submit your University of California application, you’re asked to self-report any transfer coursework or AP/IB exam scores. UC Merced uses this information during the initial review of admissions.

After you’re admitted and submit official transcripts and test scores, Undergraduate Admissions evaluates your records and adds transferable coursework to your official academic record. This credit will then appear in MyDegreePath and may help you meet prerequisites for future classes.

However, your academic record may be updated after Admissions completes a full verification of your transcripts. During this process, some transfer credits may be removed or adjusted based on UC policies. Common reasons include:

  • Duplicate coursework
  • Mutually exclusive credit (e.g., similar content across two courses)
  • Transfer credit limitations
  • Failed or non-transferable courses

These changes are part of UC Merced’s official credit review process and help ensure your academic record meets university standards.

More About Transfer Credit Policies

  • UC Merced allows up to 70 semester (105 quarter) units of lower-division transfer credit. AP/IB exam units don’t count toward this limit. Learn more
  • Duplicate credit—where two courses cover the same content—is not eligible for transfer and will be removed. Duplicate credit policy
  • Caps exist for ESL and Physical Education credit, and credit limits apply to repeating courses. Course repetition policy
